Facebook for Kansas West Conference

We started the Kansas West Facebook Page in October 2009. My original strategy was just to post updates about our rebuilding process following a fire in our office building. Because we were in temporary space, we discouraged people from coming to the office and it offered us an opportunity to reconnect with our constituents in a more immediate way than our website.

We started out small with a few posts related to the fire reconstruction and then started sharing information about new projects we were considering, sharing news and information from other United Methodist-related organizations, asking questions to generate discussion and posting videos and photos of events, especially our annual meeting sessions.

We also generate a lot of content for our website and we started using the Facebook page as another outlet for our news stories. We have built up to an audience of 617 people for the Kansas West Facebook page. We have our peak number of visitors and interactions during our conference sessions and the weeks during our international and regional conferences, held every four years.
