The Kansas East, Kansas West and Nebraska United Methodist conferences are in the middle of a merger of the three conferences together into one. A transition team has been working on this transition since November 2009. The team is working on a plan for structuring and staffing the new conference. The plan will be discussed at the three conferences’ annual meetings in May and June and voted on in August.

In order to make those conversations the most productive they can be, the team was looking for ways of sharing information and encouraging conversation with a wide demographic of people across the two states and three conferences. MindMixer is a web-based community planning and development tool used by places like Omaha, Neb., San Francisco, Fort Worth, Kansas State University and many more. MindMixer was founded on the belief that civic engagement should and can be facilitated in a more effective manner. MindMixer has changed the culture of engagement in communities across the country, helping citizens become active contributors to community-driven conversations and initiatives.

The Great Plains Area was the first religious organization to contract with the company for a site. The idea was to begin building community through the use of a number of questions about what people want to keep as they move forward and how they like to receive and share information. Once draft proposals for the transition are ready, questions around the proposals will be posted to encourage conversation around these ideas so the best ideas can be implemented in the new conference.
