Jeff Slater elected to membership in United Methodist Church

Each year at the annual United Methodist conference meetings, individuals called to ministry are commissioned and ordained as ministers in the denomination. I write news releases for the media outlets of their choices and distribute the releases electronically. Releases include basic biographical information about the individual as well as an explanation of the process through which the person is going toward becoming a fully credentialed minister in the United Methodist Church.

This release, and others like it, are often picked up and run by the local newspapers where the person serves as well as their hometown newspapers. Photographs are attached to the electronically distributed news releases. Releases are sent electronically to make them easier for papers to copy and paste into their publications and eliminates the need to re-type the releases for use.

JEFF SLATER ELECTED TO MEMBERSHIP IN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

WICHITA, Kan.— Jeff Slater, Great Bend, is a new elder and full member of the The United Methodist Church.

Kansas Area United Methodist Bishop Scott Jones, Wichita, received Slater into full membership in the United Methodist Church during a service May 25 in Hutchinson, Kan. The service at the Kansas State Fairgrounds was part of the 2011 session of the Kansas West Annual (Regional) Conference of The United Methodist Church. He became a probationary member of the conference in 2006. With election to full membership, Slater will be a full member of the Annual Conference. Ordination as an elder authorizes Slater to conduct worship, preach the word, perform the marriage ceremony, bury the dead and administer the sacraments of Holy Communion.

Slater has a master of divinity degree from Saint Paul School of Theology. He will continue to serve the Great Bend Trinity United Methodist Church. He previously served as associate pastor at Hutchinson Trinity and the Tescott and Culver United Methodist churches. Before entering the ministry, he was a broadcast meteorologist at KAKE-TV Wichita.

Originally from Wichita, Kan., Slater is married to Rev. Amy Slater. They are expecting their first child in July. He is the son of Steve and Muriel Slater of Wichita, Kan.
